#KART4LIFE Charity Event Success! YAS Staff Event

On Tuesday evening over 60 YAS staff descended upon Leeds, suited up and took to the track for a 3-hour 30 min endurance karting race in aid of the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity. For the third year, KART4LIFE has been incredibly popular and so this was the first of two nights of karting mayhem, the next race (Public Event) being on 1st Feb - feel free to come along and spectate.

Motorsport is dangerous. Always has been and that’s what makes it such a compelling sport and a real challenge, especially endurance. With proper personal safety equipment, karting is relatively safe and has statistically never been safer but still carries an element of risk. This was evident in the pre-race practice when a collision in the tunnel resulted in one driver being partially ejected from his seat, injuring his knee, and damaging his helmet. A crude reminder of the dangers of motorsport, regardless he drove for over 90 mins afterwards (what a guy!).

Lining up 9th on the grid, it took Red Squadron just 4 laps to take the lead, a lead which they were determined to keep. Behind, the chasing pack battled hard to make up places and over the course of the first two hours the order settled down with numerous teams setting increasingly competitive times. The pace of the Bradford Bandits was not to be underestimated and they found a way through the pack before hunting down the leaders.

The final 45 mins saw an intense battle for the lead, changing hands several times as they duelled and danced their way through the lapped karts. Ultimately the Bandit’s proved too strong and snatched the lead, taking the chequered flag!

The top 5 positions were as follows:

1) Bradford Bandits 2) Red Squadron 3) Yebat' De' mo! 4) South Speed Kings 5) Piston Driving

Bradford Bandits Kevin Singh also claimed the plaudits for the event’s fastest lap with a 40.133!

A huge thank you to all that took part and donated, you made it a fantastic event and I’m incredibly grateful for all the support. Photo’s/videos will be posted on www.kart4life.uk in the coming days, if you have any that you wish to share, please drop me an email.

We have raised over £1900 for the Yorkshire Ambulance Service Charity so far, and with another event to take place and any sponsorships to be collected, we are optimistic of a great fundraising total.

Donations can be made via our website www.kart4life.uk.

There will be more events later this year so stay tuned and of course #KART4LIFE 2023 is in the planning stages!

A special thank you goes out to the fantastic staff at TeamSport Leeds who were magnificent hosts and our sponsors Unison YAB and SAXBY Surfacing Contractors, great people that ensured these events could take place.

On to the next one!
